No time for concept vehicles: 12 years to avoid climate change catastrophe, IPCC warns

Now, a report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – released Oct 8 – show global temperatures might rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels as early as 2030. Beyond that, even half a degree is likely to be disastrous, significantly worsen the risks of floods, drought, catastrophic forest fires and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.

Limiting global warming to 1.5°C is possible “within the laws of chemistry and physics” but would require "unprecedented changes”. The good news is that some of those changes are already underway, although they would need to accelerate.

Road transportation is responsible for approx. 20 percent of global CO2 emissions. Here, electrification of cars and trucks – in conjunction with a shift to renewables, enabled by advances in wind and solar power – is our best chance for decarbonization.

Leading the transition to a sustainable road freight transportation system, Einride’s solution is based on all-electric, battery powered trucks. A shift to autonomous drive creates the economic incentive, cutting costs dramatically compared to conventional diesel-powered transportation.

“The time for concept cars and visionary speeches is over. What the world needs are commercially available, ready to implement solutions that makes sense from a business as well as an environmental perspective. For road freight transportation, Einride provides that solution” says Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride.
